GBT with our dentist Coorparoo for a dental spa
It is important that you visit the dentist Coorparoo at least once every six months for a thorough examination of your teeth and gums and a professional clean to remove excess plaque and tartar. Plaque and tartar are the main causes of dental health issues including tooth decay and gum disease. A professional clean helps remove excess plaque and tartar from the teeth so that your teeth are white, clean and strong.
GBT for removing biofilm
The layer of plaque and bacteria that builds up on your teeth on a daily basis is known as biofilm. If you do not have a good dental hygiene routine then biofilm continues to build up in your mouth and it is difficult to remove it without the help of the dentist. Here at Brisbane Laser Dentist our dentist Coorparoo is able to offer you guided biofilm therapy or GBT. This is an excellent alternative to a traditional hygienist appointment. Traditionally a professional clean, also known as a scale and polish is carried out by scraping plaque and tartar from the teeth and breaking up the remaining pieces using ultrasonic devices. This can be messy and sometimes it can be uncomfortable or painful. Many patients are reluctant to undergo a scale and polish or even visit the dentist at all because they are scared of the pain and discomfort that can be associated with certain treatments and procedures. In stark contrast GBT is described as a dental spa. It uses air and water to clean your teeth comfortably to promote better dental health.
The different stages of GBT using Airflow
GBT is carried out in a few steps. To begin with, our dentist Coorparoo will examine your teeth and gums for any signs of decay or disease. Then you will be given a disclosing agent that will show us where the biofilm on your teeth is. This makes it easy for our dentist to clean your teeth thoroughly. We believe that disclosing helps show you which areas of your mouth require more attention and encourages you to clean your teeth more efficiently and visit the dentist more often to maintain a healthy mouth.
Airflow uses a pressurised stream of air and water along with a fine powder as the abrasive agent to remove plaque, tartar and stains from the surface of your teeth. This is pain-free, rather described as a comfortable spa experience. The next stage is Perioflow which uses Airflow to clean the deep pockets in the prevention and reversal of gum disease. Finally any remaining tartar is removed using a minimally invasive device known as Piezon. Once complete the disclosing agent is used to show whether there is any biofilm remaining on your teeth, but hopefully by now your teeth are white and clean and you can smile happily and with ease and look forward to your next visit.
